Privacy Policy

ParaPhrase Text ("we", "our", "the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that rewrites text to sound natural in American English. This policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Account data

When you sign in with Google, we receive and store your email address and a unique user identifier. We do not access your Google contacts, calendar, or any other Google account data.

Usage data

We track the number of paraphrases per day to enforce free-tier limits. We do not store the content of your paraphrases on our servers (free tier). Pro/Lifetime users who opt into paraphrase history will have their last 50 paraphrases stored.

Text you paraphrase

When you paraphrase text, the selected text is sent to our server, which forwards it to OpenAI's API for processing. We do not log, store, or retain your text. It is processed in-memory and discarded. OpenAI's data usage policy applies to their processing — see OpenAI API Data Usage Policies.

Waitlist

If you join our waitlist on the landing page, we store your email address and optional pricing preference. This data is used solely to notify you about product updates.

Analytics

We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics (e.g., feature usage, error rates). No personally identifiable information is sent to PostHog. We use Sentry for anonymous error tracking.

2. Chrome Extension Permissions

• storage — to persist your authentication session locally in your browser.
• identity — to enable Google sign-in via Chrome's built-in authentication flow.
• Content script on all URLs — to detect text selection and show the paraphrase popover on any webpage. The content script only activates when you select text; it does not read or transmit page content otherwise.

3. Third-Party Services

• CryptoCloud (payment processing) — used only if you purchase the Lifetime Pro plan

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except as required by the services listed above to provide the extension's functionality.

5. Data Retention

• Account data is retained until you delete your account.
• Usage counts reset daily and are not retained long-term.
• Paraphrase history (Pro/Lifetime only) is retained until you delete it.
• Waitlist emails are retained until the waitlist is closed or you request removal.

6. Your Rights

You can request deletion of all your data by emailing novakovskii.c@gmail.com. We will process your request within 30 days. This applies to users in any jurisdiction, including GDPR (EU) and CCPA (California).

7. Changes

We may update this policy. Significant changes will be communicated via the extension or email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
